Google MapsVery disappointing to have my father in your Facility at Aberfoyle Park and had no notification that he has tested positive for covid. Results were apparently received by Resthaven yesterday morning and, as per text messages received with updates, I had no reason to believe he was one of the current cases as all NOK had been notified. So... over a day ago now and still no explanation as to how this simple task has gone so horribly wrong! :(

Google MapsContacted Resthaven Head Office today and forwarded to Paradise to see if they could provide home care support to family who have already been assessed for a package. A totally disinterested person answered the phone, her answer to any question was “we’re at capacity, can’t tell you anymore we’re at capacity”. No explanation, no guidance, robotic. If we could give a negative rating we would. No care at all, given we’ve seen repeated ads on TV the reality doesn’t match the marketing spin.

Google MapsDad spent two weeks in respite at the Toorak Gardens respite house - quite a small facility as it turned out. The aim was to give mum a much needed break from caring for dad. Dad is 92 and very frail but still with it and determined to be as independent as possible. On my first visit (after dinner on day 2) dad was complaining about the food. Warmed-up leftovers from the night before, which he didn't like then. But the real shock was that there were no covid precautions in place. Nil. Zip. None whatsoever. I was able to just walk right in. No masks anywhere, no sanitiser, no questions about symptoms or vaccinations before I was allowed in. It was like they had never heard of covid. Amazing. Over the next 12 days the food didn't improve, according to dad, no meat, nothing fresh, no fruit, no veg. Not sure if that's an exaggeration, but he was far from pleased. The care seemed attentive - at least whilst I was there, and there was one chap that took the time to have good chats with dad which he very much appreciated. Then to top it all off, when it came time for him to come home his wallet had disappeared. So now mum had dad back home, all the caring duties and the stress of working out what cards dad had and how to replace them. All mums phone calls/voicemails to Resthaven about this have gone unanswered. Luckily the government paid the bulk of the $1,000/night that this dubious experience cost, I seriously can't see why they can't do a better job at that price......

Google MapsThe cleaning staff are absolutely wonderful. The O.T. is also caring and prompt. As for the co-ordinator I find her absolutely impossible. Very seldom does she answers your emails; I have been waiting since May for a window cleaner; if I phone to speak to her, the receptionist asks who is calling and then says “I’ll see if she is available to you”. Really, for what we are charged the services are sorely lacking. It’s time she lifted her game…..Victor Harbor
