Google MapsDifferent Journeys regularly refers carers to ADEC's support services. ADEC provide a range of services and supports which include support to submit a NDIS early intervention application, NDIS plan management, support with the diagnostic assessments required by the NDIS and they also provide capacity building programs. Many of our carers cannot afford to have their child or in some cases children assessed. It is an expensive process - carers have been quoted $2,000+ for that formal diagnosis. Using ADEC's direct referral process the staff will speak directly to the carer to determine the type of assessment and support required. The friendly and supportive staff at ADEC then walk our carers step by step through the assessment process. They will also support them to submit their Early Intervention NDIS application. For many of the carers Different Journeys works with - the carer is overwhelmed by the assessment and NDIS application process. Having the support of the ADEC staff throughout this process reduces the stress and anxiety of the carer. I was speaking to a carer this morning - she was so grateful for all the support she had received so far from ADEC. Her son (15) will be assessed for autism in the new year. If diagnosed, ADEC have informed her that they will start the early intervention NDIS application process on her behalf. She was so relieved to have someone explain and support her through this process.
