Our methodology
What we list, how results are ranked, and how paid placements are labelled.
Directory results are ordered by a published score, not by who pays us. Providers can buy a Featured placement, and every one is labelled. This page explains what we list, how results are ranked, and where the facts come from.
What we list
Every provider comes from the public NDIS provider register, distributed via Clickability. We show a provider when it is active in our copy of the register and has at least one outlet we can place on a map, so a location search returns providers that can actually deliver there.
Registration status and outlet details are checked against the register on a regular schedule, and each provider page shows when those facts were last refreshed. The NDIS website is the authoritative source. If our copy of the register disagrees with it, the NDIS website wins.
How results are ranked
Browse and search results default to a relevance score out of 100. It is built from signals we can check against the sources described on the data sources page:
- Google rating — the biggest factor. We use a Bayesian average of the provider's matched Google ratings, pulled toward the site-wide average when there are few reviews. Without it, one five-star review would outrank a provider with 200 reviews averaging 4.7.
- Review volume. More reviews point to a provider that is actually trading. The count is scored on a curve and capped, so a very high number stops adding weight.
- Accepting new clients. Providers marked as accepting get the full signal, limited availability gets half, and not accepting gets none.
- Claimed profile. A provider that has claimed its listing keeps its contact details and availability up to date, so it earns a small, capped uplift.
A provider with no rating ranks below rated providers, because a missing rating should not outscore a measured one. When two providers score the same, we order them alphabetically.
Search sorting and filters
Search results can also be ordered by rating, number of locations, or name (A–Z). Filters narrow the list by minimum rating, minimum locations, and whether the provider publishes a website. These change which providers you see and in what order — never a provider's rating, reviews, or stored score.
Reviews
Ratings and review counts are averaged from the reviews we hold for a provider. Most are Google Business Profile reviews matched to the provider's outlets; some come from the provider's Clickability profile. Each review shows its source on the listing.
We do not accept payment to change a rating, and we do not write, seed, or buy reviews.
Featured listings
Providers can pay for a Featured placement. Featured listings are always labelled “Featured” and sit in their own block, so you can tell them apart from organic results. A placement buys visibility only. It never changes a provider's registration status, ratings, or reviews.
What we will not do
- We will not take money to change a provider's rating, reviews, or registration status.
- We will not present a paid placement as if it were an organic result.
- We will not list a provider we cannot find in the register data.
