I was admitted to the RMH December 12th 2025 after suffering a double brain bleed and stroke whilst on a coach from Ballarat. The staff on the stroke unit except for one nurse who worked nights were brilliant and very compassionate. The one exception to the rule showed no empathy despite the fact I was extremely confused at the time, she was blunt and had no patience! One night I was so confused trying to go to the toilet that I was frustrating myself but she decided that I was taking too long trying to get back in bed and ended up telling me I could do it myself and she wasn’t going to bother turning my light off either! I was away from my family and friends and I cried the remainder of the night (with the main light remaining on!). This particular nurse is definitely in the wrong job and shouldn’t be responsible for vulnerable people. I’m only 55 and was already depressed due to my circumstances but she made me dread the nights with her rude, abrupt manner. Apart from that I couldn’t fault any of the other nurses who were genuinely lovely, supportive and kind.
Thank you to the Emergency Department – Royal Melbourne Hospital Many people worry about long waiting times in Emergency Departments, but if you understanding the triage process helps explain how urgent cases are prioritised. On Sunday night, my daughter was admitted with an infection from an old wound. Although we were initially told the wait could be several hours, a nurse quickly noticed her heart rate was abnormally high and immediately called a doctor. Within minutes, she was taken into emergency care, given IV fluids, blood tests, and continuous monitoring. Nurses checked on her regularly and provided excellent care. All doctors, nurses, and support staff were kind, attentive, and professional. Special thanks to the males ( in diffirent room ) and female nurse on the night shift on 15 December for her exceptional care. After 24 hours, my daughter was moved to observation, where staff continued to check on her needs and comfort. We are very grateful to the Emergency Department team and the staff on Level 3, South Wing, from 15–17 December. Thank you for your kindles , your patient and your dedication .

Google MapsMy GP sent me to Royal Melbourne for cardiac & breathing concerns . ED was fantastic, however the SSU was awful. I was in quite a bit of pain & it was ramping up. After several hours of listening to the nursing staff at the nurses station talk about their cars & holidays I dressed, walked over to the nurses station to ask where the kiosk was so I could get a drink. I hadn’t had a drink since getting to the hospital at 8.20 & it was 12.40. David pointed in the general direction, stated there was a tea station nearby, I commented that would have been nice to know. David advised they were very busy, I queried that as I had to listen to them chatting for several hours. I was told there is a big difference between the nursing & medical teams ?? David queried my pain, I advised I would call my GP when I got home. As to the ED Dr who asked me if I have anxiety, I would if I ever come back to The Royal Melb.
I’m giving my experience on 14 Jan at RMH 5 stars. Lucky enough to get a quiet waiting room, was seen quickly and from start to finish encountered the most delightful and helpful staff from check in, triage, assessment, treatment and discharge they were kind, professional and it was genuinely the best hospital experience I’ve encountered. I have also attended the royal women’s and outpatient at this hospital and again give them 5 stars.

Google MapsWent here for a cyst on my face that was painful and swelling, royal Melbourne basically booked me in to come back in a week to see a surgeon, I’ve been in pain for that whole week just counting the seconds til I could see the doctor, then they sent me a text and just cancelled my appointment and rescheduled for 4 weeks later. I instead went to Footscray hospital and they’ve sorted me out with no dramas at all. I’m really glad I had this experience so I can make sure I never take a family member or a friend to Royal Melbourne. I definitely won’t be returning.
